Call for hosts for IOI 2028 and 2027
Greetings to the IOI community,
I am writing to you now regarding the future of IOI. During each Olympiad, we take bids for future hosts: this year, we will be taking bids for IOI 2027 and IOI 2028. We are expecting at least one bid for IOI 2027, but we are not yet aware of any pending bids for IOI 2028.
As you may know, our usual practice is to take bids for IOI four years in advance. However, since the pandemic it has been difficult to maintain this timeframe, leaving the IOI on a “cliff edge” of potentially not having a host.
Therefore, I am writing today to ask each of you: If you have been thinking of a future bid to host IOI, please consider bidding for IOI 2028. (Of course, additional bids for IOI 2027 are welcome also.)
Our intention is to take bids for both IOI 2027 and 2028 during this year’s IOI in Egypt, and to make a recommendation to the General Assembly at the end of this IOI.
As I have said before, when we hosted IOI 2013 in Australia it was in response to a call such as this. Hosting an IOI was an enormous effort, but it was also immensely rewarding, and I do hope that you have the chance to experience this for yourselves.
If you are thinking about hosting IOI 2027 or 2028 in your country, or would like more information, please send an email to J.P. Pretti, Secretary of IOI (secretary.ioinformatics_at_gmail.com). He can answer any questions, and provide more details about the application process. You can also read more in the IOI Regulations: section 4 outlines the host selection process, and section 5 outlines host responsibilities.
With best regards,
Prof. Benjamin Burton
President of IOI
